The Long Game

A Life, A Game and Everything in Between

About

Overview

I have been meaning to write this book for twenty years.
Not the golf books. Those came naturally. When you have a philosophy about the game
and you have spent years refining it in lesson after lesson, putting it on paper feels like the
obvious next step. The Just Hit The Damn Ball series grew out of something I was already
saying to students every day. Writing those books was like transcribing a conversation I had
been having for decades.

This book is different.

This book is not about what I know about golf. It is about what golf knows about me. About what the game has revealed, over thirty three years on the same piece of ground in Richmond Hill, Ontario, about who I am, what I believe, what I have gotten wrong, what I have learned too late, and what I would want to say if I knew someone was genuinely listening.

I kept putting it off because books like this require a kind of honesty that instructional
books do not. You can explain the mental game of golf with authority and distance. You cannot
write your own story that way. Your own story requires you to show up fully. To say the things
that are difficult to say. To admit what the years have actually looked like from the inside rather
than how they might appear from the outside.

I am ready to do that now. For reasons that will become clear as you read.

Thank you for listening.
